Real Estate 411

The Info you NEED in Today's Real Estate Market

The newest victims to the mortgage melt down and foreclosures are pets left behind. This is turning into a crisis. The shelters are full. With animals classified as personal property their rights are limited or non existent in some areas.
Banks are requesting agents not feed the animals. This is cruel and unusual punishment.
I would like to see some type of communication or call tree established among the real estate community to assist in these cases. If someone has any ideas or how to set this up please feel free to comment.
Not all animals can be reunited with their owners, not all will be saved, but perhaps we can save some.
My feeling is it is more humane to put them down than to leave them floundering on their own.
I was going to contact the local shelters in regards to this to see what they would suggest.
I would want first to try to find homes for them.
Any thoughts or solutions?
Any agents or ancillaries in Contra Costa County interested in getting together to see what we could do? You can email me privately if you wish YourBrokerTerry@comcast.net

You know Terry I haven't been able to get this post out of my mind since I first read it. I'm going to call our local animal shelter to see if they're experiencing the same as in your area. I haven't heard of any problems with this as of yet, but with foreclosures on the rise it would'nt surprise me to see it happening. I'll keep you posted.
My understanding is several animals have been found dead in abandoned homes. It is a tragedy all the way around.
I certainly keep a lookout when going to vacant homes.
Terry - I called our local animal shelter and they said they are seeing more animals being dropped off by their owners because of foreclosure and job loss then ever before. They have not found pets abandoned in their homes or left to die as of yet. Their suggestion was to give a link to petfinders and she sent me a link to our local animal shelter. I posted a blog with the url she gave and hopefully we can find a home for some of these poor lost pets.
